About Us

Andy Blair was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1959, and grew up in Bedworth, Warwickshire after moving to England. His early career was spent on the football pitch, making his professional debut for Coventry City in a 2-1 win over Birmingham City.

After three seasons at Coventry, Andy transferred to Aston Villa, where he played a key role in one of the club’s most successful eras—helping them win the Charity Shield, the European Cup, and the European Super Cup. He later had a short loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to Sheffield Wednesday.

In November 1984, Andy made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in a League Cup match. Unfortunately, a knee injury at the age of 26 brought his playing career to a premature end.

But retirement from football was just the beginning of a new journey. In 1989, Andy swapped wearing kits for supplying them, this was when Andy Blair Team & Workwear was born.

Starting out on local markets, his drive and determination quickly led to the opening of his first shop in Coventry’s Cannon Park Shopping Centre. Over time, Andy built a strong reputation for quality products and excellent customer service, eventually expanding to three locations around Coventry.

With in-house machinery and a growing client base, the business became a trusted supplier of workwear, and sportswear to the local community. While Andy has since stepped away from the school wear side a few years back, the workwear business continues to thrive.

Today, we operate from The Old Bank in Coundon, where all embroidery and printing is done on-site by our dedicated team of seven. Andy’s children, Ash and Matt, now help run the day-to-day operations of the shop, keeping the business truly family-run.

And of course, Andy is still very much involved, popping in for deliveries, check-ins, and always making sure everyone starts the day with a good cup of tea.
